Terms of Service

Terms for using PaperFig to generate, edit, store, and export scientific figures

2026/06/07

Introduction

These Terms of Service govern your use of PaperFig. By using PaperFig, you agree to use the service responsibly and to review generated scientific content before publication or submission.

PaperFig Service

PaperFig provides AI-assisted tools for biomedical mechanism figures, pathway diagrams, graphical abstracts, label editing, figure refinement, exports, and related research workflows. The service may use your prompts, uploaded images, PDFs, sketches, and reference materials to generate and edit figures.

PaperFig currently uses third-party AI, storage, payment, email, hosting, authentication, analytics, and security services to provide these features. AI and safety processing currently includes an Evolink-compatible API gateway and the Creem Moderation API. Depending on the feature and availability, PaperFig's current documented model configuration includes gemini-3.1-flash-image-preview, gemini-3-pro-image-preview, and evolink/auto. These services, model names, and providers may change when the product configuration changes.

Your Content and Permissions

You are responsible for the prompts, images, PDFs, sketches, labels, research descriptions, and other materials you submit. You must have the right to upload and process those materials through PaperFig and through third-party AI services used by PaperFig.

You must not upload patient privacy information, PHI, sensitive personal information, unauthorized clinical data, confidential research, unpublished data that cannot be shared with AI services, trade secrets, third-party copyrighted materials without permission, or any content that violates law, institutional rules, journal policies, grant-review confidentiality, or research ethics requirements.

Scientific Review Responsibility

AI-generated outputs may be incomplete, inaccurate, mislabeled, visually misleading, or unsuitable for a specific journal or scientific claim. PaperFig does not provide scientific, medical, legal, publication, or regulatory advice.

You are responsible for reviewing, verifying, correcting, and approving every generated figure, label, pathway, mechanism, icon, annotation, citation, chemical structure, biological relationship, and scientific claim before using the output.

Credits, Subscriptions, Refunds, and Cancellations

PaperFig may use credits, subscriptions, and one-time credit packages. Credit costs, renewal rules, expiration rules, subscription terms, cancellation behavior, and refund availability are governed by the pricing, checkout, account, and support pages shown when you purchase or use the service. Purchased one-time credit packages are valid for 12 months from purchase. Subscription credits are issued by billing cycle and expire after 30 days unless the pricing page states otherwise.

Generated outputs, downloads, exports, and failed or partial attempts may consume credits when described in the product interface. If you believe a credit, subscription, refund, or cancellation issue occurred, contact support so we can review the account record.

Prohibited Use

You may not misuse PaperFig, attempt to bypass credit or payment controls, reverse engineer private APIs, disrupt the service, upload malware, infringe rights, submit illegal materials, or use generated outputs in a way that misrepresents scientific evidence.

You may not request, upload, generate, edit, enhance, export, or distribute NSFW, adult, pornographic, sexually explicit, sexually suggestive, deepfake, face-swap, face-manipulation, illegal, infringing, harmful, exploitative, abusive, hateful, harassing, non-consensual, or privacy-violating content.

This includes violent or graphic-gore content; any sexual, exploitative, or abusive content involving a minor, including child sexual abuse material (CSAM); and material that infringes or is intended to infringe another party's copyright, trademark, or other intellectual-property rights. PaperFig does not permit requests intended to reproduce protected characters, brands, logos, or copyrighted works without the necessary rights or permission.

Acceptable Use Policy

This Acceptable Use Policy applies to prompts, uploads, generated images, editing requests, exports, and any other materials processed through PaperFig. You may use PaperFig for lawful research, education, presentation, publication, and related scientific communication workflows.

You may not use PaperFig to generate, edit, enhance, export, or distribute NSFW, adult, pornographic, sexually explicit, or sexually suggestive content. You may not use PaperFig for deepfake content, face-swap requests, face-manipulation generation, non-consensual identity manipulation, impersonation, harassment, exploitative content, harmful content, illegal content, infringing content, or any content that violates the rights, privacy, safety, or consent of another person.

PaperFig may use automated or manual safety checks, including third-party moderation services, to review prompts, uploads, or generated outputs. Safety checks are not perfect and do not replace your responsibility to use the service lawfully and responsibly.

Availability

PaperFig is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We may change, pause, limit, or discontinue features as the MVP evolves. We are not responsible for losses caused by downtime, model errors, third-party service failures, incorrect scientific output, or your failure to review generated figures.

Public Showcase and Withdrawal

Free generations are public by default and paid generations are private by default. The owner can switch an eligible generation between Public and Private in History. Public means only the generated result image and a short, de-identified description may be considered for a curated PaperFig showcase. PaperFig will not publish the original upload, PDF, source URL, full prompt, full research description, chart data, or complete figure specification in that showcase.

The owner may withdraw a public result at any time. Withdrawal removes it from the future publication candidate pool, subject to reasonable cache, backup, and already-curated retention. A public result is not a promise that PaperFig will publish it, index it, rank it, or display it permanently.
